"Really? It is "our" problem? Did we have the desire to put the nation of Japan under colonial control? We did stop the planned invasion. When there was surrender. A peace treaty was not an option. It means there would have been negotiations. The unconditional surrender was demanded to ensure the possibility of the war machine and those responsible not being able to be rebuild and to dismantle the possibility of another war. I was a soldier once and never wanted to see war. Ever. Which option is preferred, long term stability (which has been achieved) or short term chaos? Who were the people in charge of the nation who could nave brokered such a thing and make it viable to the others who wanted to continue at all costs? When the emperor finally stepped in (thankfully) for the sake of the suffering people, did a real peaceful solution even start forward. Don't even think the attempt to bring in the Soviets was a remote option. That was a non starter from the beginning. What are the terms which would have been acceptable at the time? And not to you now. That is arm chairing history to meet a desired and expected outcome. Based upon what happened with our temporary occupation (of which one of my uncles was part of) and helping to rebuild your nation, was it not a bad deal. Long term peace was achieved."

You know nothing about the situation with the post-war relationship between the US and Japan. After the war, Japan has been seriously damaged by the US, which has created and instituted the constitution of Japan that Japanese cannot change, has robbed us of the moral codes that had been set to maintain and stabilize the social strength of our nation by forcing our teachers to daub with black ink the places that GHQ did not want to teach our children, has been endlessly stealing our money by forcing us to buy the US's national bond never capable of being used by our own will, has been forbidding us to develop the way of getting oil and other energy sources, and has been forcing us to elect the PM that they chose. The actual status of Japan is that of a subject state. Judging from what it has been doing to this day, it is crystal clear that the motivation of the US to war with Japan was to take over the country and totally control it. What the US did cannot be permitted and forgiven from any points of view.
The pretext that Americans often use is that the US could not help preventing Japan from aggression into the continent. What? Why only Japan? England, France, Russia, the Netherlands and other western nations had invaded the continent of China, the Southeast Asian countries, India, and other regions too.
The invasion into Japan using nuclear attacks cannot be justified from any point of views.
